NEW BRUNSWICK HOUSING INFORMATION SYSTEM (NBHIS)

Rural New Brunswick is facing a housing crisis. We need to almost double the number of housing starts relative to the 1990's to grow our workforce by 0.5% to provide housing for a growing number of new Canadians, youth, and seniors in these communities. More people are retiring than entering the workforce, so we need to grow our population, and those newcomers need a home with dignity.

The New Brunswick Housing Information System (NBHIS) provides information to help accelerate rural housing development and rental data access outside of Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton. Data includes:

MUNICIPAL AND RENTAL DATA TAB

Planners, developers, and contractors

• Census and rental data.
• Links to municipal website, Facebook, zoning bylaws, MLS listings, Indeed job posting and local contractors for each community.

ASSET MAP TAB

Developers

• Information on vacant properties that could be developed in participating communities, including Google Street View.
• Images and links to recently completed housing projects in participating communities.
• Municipal zoning layers in participating communities.

RENTAL LISTING MAP TAB

Owners, renters, and newcomers

• We are saving rental postings from Facebook and Kijiji for 30 communities since October 1, 2022. 
• This data help users identify the attributes, quantity, quality of rentals in each community, providing a broad range of value, including average rent rates by number of bedrooms.
• This page is updated monthly.

NBHIS is an initiative led by the New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association (NBNPHA) with support from the federal government, provincial governments as well as the Community Housing Transformation Centre.
